One of the most impressive area of the Future Centre is the Refettorio, the Monks’ Canteen, today transformed in a conference hall. It has been refurbished with modern communications technologies making it suitable for congresses, seminars and points counterpoints.
This XVI century hall used to be the monks’ canteen and it has the usual shape of counter-juxtaposed benches with, at the centre, the table for the Abbot. This architecture has been preserved today with benches being fitted with monitors and Internet connections.
Here we find a concrete example on how to mix the past with the future, the historical heritage with the potential of technology. Each seat is provided with a personal screen and a conference system allowing interaction among participants. The hall is also equipped with a voting system to let the attendees express their opinion in real time.
Participating to a conference under the frescos and stuccos is a unique experience.
In the hall preceeding the Refettorio Telecom Italia has created a small museum tracing the evolution of the telephone in the last hundred years.
